Canyon Road is home to 50+ renowned art galleries — endless opportunities to explore Santa Fe's celebrated art scene. The right way to do it is to park at the bottom, leisurely browse galleries on the way up, and finish with lunch or drinks at one of the charming spots along the way, such as The Teahouse or The Compound.

Friday evenings, when the galleries are open and the street fills up, are their own event. If you can time a visit to that, do it.

Wear shoes that can do a slow uphill walk. Bring some patience. Don't try to see every gallery — pick the ones that catch your eye and let the rest go.
