Iconik Coffee: two locations, both worth knowing.

Iconik is the Santa Fe coffee shop we send people to first, and there are two locations worth knowing — they're different enough in feel that we use them for different mornings.

The Lupe location is on Guadalupe Street, in the stretch between downtown and the Railyard. Excellent coffee, sandwiches, tacos, and a charming patio that's where you actually want to be on a 70-degree morning. It's a working café — laptops open, regulars who know each other, baristas who know what they're doing. If you're staying anywhere south of the Plaza, this is the closer of the two and the one you'll fold into a slow morning routine.

The downtown location is the secret one. It's tucked inside a cozy bookstore on Galisteo Street, just steps from the Plaza, and walking in feels like you've found something. Same coffee, completely different vibe — quieter, slower, the kind of room where you sit down with a book and an hour goes missing. We send first-time guests here on the morning we want them to understand what slow Santa Fe means.

Why both work for visitors: Santa Fe is a walking city in its core, and good coffee within walking distance of where you're sleeping or where you're parking is half the battle. Lupe is the morning before a Railyard or Sky Railway day. Downtown is the morning before the Plaza, the O'Keeffe Museum, or Canyon Road. Pick by what's on your day, not by which one is technically better — they're both technically good.

Practical notes. Both fill up on weekend mornings between 9 and 11 — get there earlier or later. The bookstore location's seating is genuinely limited; if you want a table for two, weekday mornings or after the lunch rush are the windows. The Lupe patio is the call when the weather is right, which in Santa Fe is most days from May through October. Both have decent gluten-free and dairy-alternative options if you're traveling with anyone who needs them.

Pair it with: a walk through the Railyard farmers market on a Saturday (Lupe is a five-minute walk), a morning at the Plaza and the cathedral (downtown is a two-minute walk), or as the warm-up before a Canyon Road afternoon.

Of all the coffee on our list, Iconik is the one that earns the most repeat visits. Most of our guests end up at one of the two locations every morning of their trip without anyone telling them to. That's the test.
