These are the things to do when you've already done the obvious things — the Plaza, Canyon Road, a trail or two, the museums. Some of them ('book the private hot tub', 'book Christina to cook for you') are honestly the move on day one of any trip. Others (the train ride, the rafting, the cliff dwellings) are how you turn a long weekend into a real trip.

If we had to pick the single most undersold of these, it's hiring Chef Christina to cook a private dinner at the house. There is something about a beautifully prepared meal in your own kitchen, with the kids loose in the courtyard and a fire going, that ends up being the night everyone remembers. Book her early — she's the best in town and she's not a secret anymore.

Visiting Ten Thousand Waves has become a cherished family tradition for us. While they offer extensive spa treatments, our favorite way to enjoy it is booking a private hot tub session — complete with its own cold plunge and sauna. We take our kids every time, often after a beautiful hike in the nearby mountains, and follow up with lunch at the fantastic onsite restaurant, Izanami.
