Skiing Santa Fe with kids: the realistic version.

Ski Santa Fe is the local mountain — a short drive from town with diverse terrain, family-friendly amenities, and lessons and rentals on-site. It's the right scale for kids: small enough that you can actually find them at the end of a run, real enough to be the trip.
Strategy on the lift ticket: buy online a few days in advance through the Ski Santa Fe website rather than at the window. If you're flexible on days, midweek is half the crowd.
What to bring from the house: a real lunch. The base lodge food is fine but expensive. We pack sandwiches and a thermos of soup, eat at the picnic tables outside, and save the post-ski hot chocolate as the actual treat.
If your group skews more advanced, Taos Ski Valley is about 1.5 hours north — legendary terrain, challenging runs, and a vibrant ski-town atmosphere. Make it a separate day, not a side trip.
Not skiing? Sledding at Hyde Memorial State Park is fifteen minutes from downtown when conditions allow. Designated sledding hills, small day-use fee around $5 per vehicle. Bring your own sleds — rentals aren't available on-site.
Apres? Drive back toward town and stop at La Choza in the Railyard — the casual sister to The Shed, easy New Mexican food, no fuss. Or skip the town stop, go straight to the hot tub at the house, and order from one of our go-to dinner spots before the last run.
