It's a slow walk on purpose. Buy something small from a local vendor under the portal at the Palace of the Governors. Sit with a coffee on a bench. Watch the city happen.

Skip most of the restaurants directly on the Plaza — they're priced for tourists. Use the Plaza for the walk, the shops, and the atmosphere; eat a block or two off it.
